Hello there! Thanks for stopping by to explore my artwork. My name is Christopher Spicer. I'm a mechanical engineer by career, but my first and truest passion has always been art. Since the first moment I touched pencil to paper, my instant love of the creative process has been a constant driving force throughout my life. Whether it's restyling a photograph into a painting or sketching original compositions entirely from imagination, I'm entranced by all techniques that transform a blank surface into finished work. Over the years, I've completed projects in many traditional and digital mediums. But my favorites continue to be acrylics, pastels, and graphite. For me, inspiration is everywhere. From the simple beauty of a beach sunrise...

Beautiful deeply burnished pastel work, Christopher! I love working with Colour Pencil and achieve many different effects with different substrates, my favorites being Bristol vellum smooth and, most recently, duralar! The oil pastels on rough give a wonderful texture. LF

Thanks for the insightful comments, Laurel! This was actually the first time I had worked with oil pastels in many years. There was some rust to shake off, but the technique started to feel more natural as I progressed. This piece was drawn onto heavily textured Canson paper. I'll have to give Bristol vellum smooth and duralar a try next time. Thanks for the suggestion.
